Donald K. "Deke" Slayton (1924-1993) was one of NASA's Original Seven Mercury astronauts and served as Director of Flight Crew Operations at the Manned Spacecraft Center, where he oversaw astronaut assignments for the Mercury, Gemini, and Apollo programs. He participated in the Gemini IX-A science debriefing in June 1966.
