John H. Glenn Jr. (1921–2016) was a U.S. Marine Corps pilot and NASA astronaut who became the first American to orbit the Earth in 1962 aboard Friendship 7, and later served as a U.S. Senator from Ohio. He appears in the archive in the NASA astronaut scientific debriefings of 1962–1963, which documented observations of anomalous aerial phenomena made during early Mercury missions.
