AAWSAP - The DIA Advanced Aerospace Weapon System Applications Program (2008-2012)

Records of the Advanced Aerospace Weapon System Applications Program (AAWSAP), a Defense Intelligence Agency program active from 2008 to 2012, first released through PURSUE Release 6 in September 2026. The program's July 2008 Statement of Objectives set out 12 technical research areas, from lift and propulsion to signature reduction, human effects and armament, with the aim of assessing foreign aerospace threats out to 2050. The work was contracted to Bigelow Aerospace Advanced Space Studies (BAASS) of Las Vegas. The collection holds the program's founding records (the Statement of Objectives, the original contract award and its five modifications) and 37 Defense Intelligence Reference Documents (DIRDs) written in 2009-2011: technical surveys ranging from metallic glasses and metamaterials to warp drives, traversable wormholes, negative-mass propulsion and the effects of anomalous fields on human tissue. The DIRDs are reference and synthesis papers rather than original research, and their authors appear only as redacted pseudonyms.
